Mike had hired Attorney Marshal Stern to represent him. But this bill was not for Mike it was for his father. DA Cox had found Mike's father in default on a bail bond he had on Mike three months after he was murdered. On 5-19-81, one of Stern's attorneys showed up in court to ask for a reduced bond because Mike was no longer alive. I was in court that morning and was surprised because we had had no contact with Stern's office. I stood up and asked the judge if I could hire my own attorney. The judge agreed. But yet Derald started getting bills from Stern's office for representing him that day.
